Fwd: Mari-Grace's 4yr old checkup

>
> I took MG to see Dr. Wilson yesterday for her 4 year old check up.
> She weighs 40.2 pounds and is 40&3/4 inches tall.
> All gross motor skills are on target. She can stand and balance on one foot. She can jump with both feet at the same time. She is 90% potty trained. Her speech is her Primary delay.
>
> The doctor is going to have us complete an occupational therapy evaluation to test her fine motor skills. I don't suspect there is an issue, and neither does the doctor. BUT... Since she spent the first two years of her life in the orphanage, she is predisposed to some issues. The doctor wants to identify any issues before she heads to kindergarten.
>
> I laughed when the doctor asked if she could cut with scissors. You know, I never think to give her scissors and let her cut. I've never noticed anything cut on her art projects at school.
> Anyway...guess it is time to buy some blunt scissors!
>
> MG couldn't communicate well enough to complete the vision test. The nurse couldn't understand MG's speech well enough to understand her shapes, and I didn't want to interpret and maybe give leading answers.
>
> The doctor was amazed at how much she has grown since we got home. She has gained 14 lbs in 2 years. She has grown almost 10 inches. She has gone from a very scared, shy little baby to a fiesty little girl.
>
> MG answered the doctors questions readily. She even hugged and kissed the doctor, which is amazing because she hid from Dr. Buckmiller last week. However, she has started showing some doctor office anxiety. She had a complete screaming meltdown when she realized that she was going to have to get 4 shots. She kept screaming "no Lissa! No shots! Hurt!". The poor nurse, Melissa always has to give MG's shots, so she is convinced that Mari-Grace hates her. It did take me and Melissa both to hold her on the exam table. Funny thing is, when I finally got her calmed down enough to leave, she walked really stiff legged and hunched over like a little old man. She would take a step and say "ouch ouch ouch".
>
> So, all is well.
>
> I'm about to fall asleep, so I'll give the Dr Buckmiller progress report tomorrow.
> G'nite all!

Fwd: Happy Mother's Day 2012

>
> We have had a very uneventful weekend. I came home from work Friday night with a temp of 104 and chills. Momma and Daddy came and spent the night so I could rest. Saturday was pretty much spent in the recliner watching Mari-Grace play. I didn't even make it to my hair appointment and I had to bail out of the Girl's Night Out I had planned.
>
> Last night my temp started inching back up and made it to 100.4. I felt pretty rotten. Luckily Uncle Greg came over and entertained MG for me for a while.
>
> Today, I woke up fine. MG now has a snotty nose. But, we have had a good day. We ventured out to Walmart so she could spend her gift card she got for her birthday. I needed to go get my MaMa a gift, but MG decided she was ready for a nap instead. As I write, she is snoozing.
>
> I can't help but think about MG's birthmother today. I am thankful for her courage to abandon MG at a police station where she would be found and taken to safety. I pray she has peace in her heart and somehow knows that MG is happy and healthy and very much loved!
>
> I also think about the foster mother that took care of MG until the time of adoption. This is the woman who tediously fed a cleft baby that could not suck. This is the woman in the Foster Mother Village that comforted MG when she cried, changed her stinky diapers, and played with her. This was likely the first person MG attached to, making successful attachment to me possible.
>
> I thank these 2 women with all of my heart.
>
> Being a mom is the greatest thing I've ever done! Without the sacrifice of the birthmother, and the care of the foster mother, I would no have this amazing child for which I am her mother forever!

Fwd: April 29... Party at the Zoo

>
>
> Our zoo has the benefit of being able to host private parties. We had 8 little girls ranging in age from 2&1/2 to 7. We also had 13 adults. The volunteer docents at the zoo shared some educational animals. The kids got to touch a ferret, fantailed pigeon, and bearded lizard. They got to see a Chilean tarantula. The girls were pretty quiet, but enjoyed seeing the animals. After the animal encounter, the kids got to visit the giraffe then a train ride.
>
> We went back to the party room and opened presents. MG was overwhelmed, and wanted me to open all her gifts. We let Chloe help. She got a walmart gift card, a pair of flip flops with rhinestones, a pop the pig game, stickers, a rocket launcher, a bunny you can color and wash, a purse you can color, tea set, dry erase markers and an alphabet book, a video dance game.
>
> After we finished the official party, the families all got to enjoy the zoo. Kinleigh, Ady, Chloe, and MG all gave uncle Greg a run for his money. The girls fed fish, then lead uncle Greg to every animal. They had a great time playing.
>
> After the zoo, we ate at Cheddars then headed home. MG fell asleep at 6:30 and slept till 11:30. She was awake for about 2 hours then off to sleep again. The zoo provided party favors. MG got a backpack full of goodies. Sometime during the 2 hours she was awake, she ate all her candy. Lol.
>
> Today was back to normal. Tonite, however, she celebrated a bit more. She got a LaLa Loopsy playset and book and a purse with lip gloss ...all from herb friend Weiler across the street from Omaw. When we got hone, she had a box on the front porch with a giraffe puppet and an orangutan puppet from our Aunt Marilyn. I had the best time playing with her and those puppets. Then our neighbor brought over a birthdays card with $10 and more stickers.
>
> We are so blessed with such great friends!
