18 Months

Well, I just realized that I didn't do my 18 month anniversary post. Feb 18, 2008 officially marked 18 months of waiting. I have now waited on my China baby the same length of time it would take to have a baby 9 months old now.

I do get frustrated. To say that it's always easy to be positive would be a BOLD FACE LIE !!!
Now is one of those times I am frustrated. I guess I didn't make a post about the 18 month mark simply becuase I don't want to think about it.

Well ... since I know nothing. I'll go.

Borrowed from a Friend's blog

Ok Charlotte ... you started it , Cheryl Shared it, I continue it !!!!

YOU KNOW YOU ARE AN ADOPTIVE PARENT WHEN:

1. The fact that there are 143 million children without a parent to kiss them goodnight has made you lose sleep.

2. You realize DNA has nothing to do with love and family.

3. You can't watch Adoption Stories on TLC without sobbing.

4. The fact that, if 7% of Christians adopted 1 child there would be no orphans in the world, is convicting to you. (amazing thought isn't it)

5. You spend free time surfing blogs about families who have experienced the blessing of adoption.

6. It drives you crazy when people ask you about adopted child's "real" parents.

7. You have ever been "pregnant" with your adoptive child longer than it takes an elephant to give birth.(2 years!) (18 months and still waiting)

8. You had no idea how you would afford to adopt but stepped out in faith anyway, knowing where God calls you He will provide. ( Hebrews 11:1... Faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of waht we do not see.)

9. You have ever taken an airplane ride half-way around the world with a child you just met.

10. You believe God's heart is for adoption.

11. You realize that welcoming a child into your heart and family is one of the most important legacies you could ever leave on this earth.

12. You know what the word "Dossier" means, and you can actually pronounce it!

13. You have welcomed a social worker into the most private parts of your life. (and in my case, made a friend for life)

14. You shudder when people say your child is so lucky that you adopted them, knowing full well you are the blessed one to have him or her in your life.

Valentine's Day 2008

Well, Thursday WAS Valentine's Day. I was sick as a dog, but I did get a very nice surprise.
My dear "friend", Anthony suprised me with 2 white roses. He hand delivered them to my doorstep. I am SO not like a lot of women. I don't EXPECT anything on Valentine's Day. I feel like a gift should be because the person admires you, or loves you, or just wants to do something nice for you. . . you are not obligated to purchase -- OR -- receive a gift.

Anthony and I have been very good "friends" since 1997. ... . GEEZ almost 11 years. We have had up times, and down times, and our relationship remains very close.

Anyway, he brought me these flowers. It made my day. I felt really bad because I was too sick to act excited. But I was. And I am proud that he valued my friendship and our relationship enough to do something nice for me on Valentine's Day.

So ... to you people out there who expect a gift on Valentine's Day .... Shame on you.

It is so much nicer to get a gift because someone cares than because they feel obligated.

Practicing for Mari-Grace

Ok ... being wide awake at 2:30 in the morning is for the birds.
I guess I'm getting some prep work in for those "all-nighters" with the Mari-Grace.

I've been sick as a dog this week. I HAVE NOT HAD THE FLU !!!! I have had a VERY EVIL
respiratory infection. I woke up not feeling great on Tuesday ... but mostly sinus drainage. However ... at 2am Wednesday morning, I my eyes felt like they were roasting. My face was as hot as a firecracker, and my insides just felt hot. So, I rummaged thru the house to find my thermometer. My temp was 100.2. Not too high, but enough to make me feel like a shitake mushroom in a frying pan.

I started antibiotics on Wednesday. I pretty much felt like crap ... running a low grade temp.
I pretty much only wanted to sleep. So since I WAS ON VACATION ... I did just that. I got up long enough to drink a slushy and take a shower then lay back down on the couch with my wonderful electric blankie my mommy bought me for Christmas.

Thursday, I ventured out to Fed-Ex the stuff from the China Store back to Chinasprout....came back home, and promptly hit the couch AGAIN. This stuff started moving down into my chest, and I started coughing Thursday night. I had some high powered cough med (from 2005). So I took a dose ... well 1/2 tsp ... since it knocks me on my buttocks. At bedtime, I took a whole teaspoonful. Sure enough, I spent Friday sleeping it off. I promptly got some Mucinex DM ... and that has helped knock this stuff loose.

Today is Saturday ... and I actually felt half human again. I worked on Mari-Grace's quilt some today. And that brings me to now. It is a quarter to 3 in the morning ... and I can't get to sleep. I've read, I've sewed, and now I'm blogging.

PLEASE SLEEP .... COME ON OVER !!!!!

FINALLY ... SOME LUNAR NEW YEAR PHOTOS!!!!!!!!!!!!

We are trying to increase educational opportunities for our kids. Heather D. provided a 30 minute "Tea Ceremony" demonstration.

The "tea brick" was interesting ...

you can scrape it with a spoon and get a fine powder of tea.

bubble wrap "Firecrackers"

Maggie and the bubble wrap.

Whit B. and Kim R......discussing the "Terrible, horrible, no good, very bad ... WAIT" and how they survived.

Anna-Marie and Savannah

Poppy enjoyed watching the kids playing.

Doesn't Hannah look pretty in her

custom-made QuiPao??? Jane had it

made for her while she and Rich were in

China to pick up Kennedi.

More Dragon Dance.

The room looked great ... of course this was WAY before the party
... still had to get the cokes on ice.

No Pain No Gain !!

I have successfully completed 4 weeks of training with my new trainer.
I am doing very well...exercise wise anyway. My diet is getting better.
I joined weight watchers online with 2 friends. They are keeping me accountable
and that is a good thing.

Nothing really new to report.

I Should Be Sleeping !!!!

It is 2 am and I should be asleep. AIN'T HAPPENING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night was our LUNAR NEW YEAR Celebration. It was great fun to get to see how much all of the kiddies have grown. I am very lucky to be involved with such a wonderful group.
I will tell you now, I have made some of my best friends in the last year.

To Kim R. . . . .you are going to make a wonderful social worker. You have such a postitive attitude. You are always encouraging, even when you are tired and frustrated. You help to give hope to those of us who are waiting.

To Melissa C....my movie buddy. Thanks for reminding me how to "relax". ... and keeping me beautified.

To Jane G...I feel like I have become part of your family. I always feel comfortable and relaxed in your home. Thank you also for sharing your adoption journey with me. I feel honored to have watched the birth of your family of five.

To Karyn and Whit B. . . what can I say ... I now have another big sister and a big brother. You guys have become a part of my family, in more ways than one. Thanks for being there for me.

To Charlotte W. , Cheryl D., Monica D., and Shelley B....thanks for opening your families for me to get to know. I have not been able to spend a lot of time with you all...but know that you are all special to me. I have followed your journey to your daughter/son/sister, and I am so happy that you have let me be a part of that journey ... from watching the yahoogroup updates, to the airport arrivals.

As a waiting mom to be....sometimes the wait is unbearable ... you all continually remind me that the wait is worth it. I see these families with your children ... and I am reminded that all good things come to those who wait. I truly believe that God is guiding my path in this adoption. All of the families mentioned remind me that even though the children are not biological, tha adoption process has guided the families to the child that God created specifically for that family.

God is creating my daughter, with me in mind. While I don't know what the future holds, God does. He has planted this desire in my heart to become an adoptive parent ... and he will not let me down.

In the mean time ... I get to share the joys of YOUR children. Thanks for letting me practice !!!!
