No real subject tonite ... just thought I'd post to say that MG is doing fabulous!! She gave Omaw (my Mom) a run for her money this morning. Apparently she didn't want white socks ... she wanted pink ones. She didn't want the pants Omaw picked for her. She didn't want the breakfast that Poppy (my Dad) fixed for her. She wanted MaMa !!! Little stinker !! She was fine after a nap. She is getting a new outdoor playset for her birthday. Cousin Caleb (aka: HandyMan) is putting it together for her. Oh My Goodness !!! The thing takes up half of my back yard ... and I got a small one !!!! I had the fence area extended by 8 feet ... and it is a good thing I did. Caleb is doing a great job with the assembly ... and bless his heart ... he is having to rip out some flower beds and level the yard to make things work. He is earning his keep (and his paycheck !!!) MG actually did very well at her suture removal yesterday. MaMa got a bit frustrated with having to wait until almost 2 pm with a 3 year old that had nothing to eat or drink since midnight the night before. She actually got a bit cranky about the last hour of waiting. She was tired ... and hungry ... and ready to go !!! The stitches came out beautifully. We are in NoNo's at night only for another week. She is back to a regular diet --- minus any crunchy foods that might poke or stick in her lip. She is able to feed herself again. That makes her HAPPY !!!! And she is eating like a little pig. She ate toppings off a supreme pizza tonite until I thought she might burst, then she had her nightly yogurt snack. FYI ... any parents of Asain kids with cleft issues ... I learned something this week. Our surgeon had me clean MG's lip with a mix of 1/2 hydrogen peroxide and 1/2 sterile water. The first few days ... that went fine ... but then MG's lip got really angry looking...quite red...and had little bumps. The surgeon looked at her yesterday ... it was not an infection ... and not a yeast issue. She actually had a skin reaction to the Hydrogen peroxide !!!! Apparently it is quite common in the Asian kids the surgeon treats. We are now using just sterile water or saline solution for cleaning. 24 hours later ... the bumps are disappearing and the redness is resolving. I learn something new every day with MG. Mostly ... that a 3 year old can out wit a 38 year old anytime ... LOL.

  1. Glad things went well, though I don't blame her for being hungry-that's a long day without food! Interesting about the peroxide. My doctor told me this year that doctors recommend against using peroxide to clean wounds, etc., because they've now found that it prolongs the open would period and actually prevents healing from getting started. So this reaction could be a good thing.
